HELEN SAVA was called to the Ontario Bar in 1991 after completing her law degree at the University of Windsor Law School and the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto. Helen has recently been pleased to expand her practice to include acting as a mediator with a focus on the life and health sector: short and long term disability, life and health claims (both group and individual) as well as creditor insurance claims.
Helen spent one year working for the Benchers of the Law Society of Upper Canada on Policy Development while at the same time working as a judge’s law clerk for a panel of judges with the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. Helen began private practice with Lang Michener in 1992 where she began her work in insurance defence litigation. In 1997 she joined Lafleur Brown and since January 1, 2001, Helen has been the principal in her own practice in Toronto, Sava Associates, where she continues to defend life and disability and AD&D claims, provide file reviews, opinions and training on privacy law and disability management for a variety of insurers and related organizations.
Helen has been a regular speaker at the CLHIA annual claims section conferences, CLHIA annual legal section, LOMA, CALBU, the Insurance Institute, Canadian Institute, Canadian Bar Association, University of Montreal, VRA, as well as numerous client, reinsurer and in-house industry attended seminars. Helen has also published on issues relevant to the insurance industry.
